Valorization of Rice Straw into Cellulose Microfibers for the Reinforcement of Thermoplastic Corn Starch Films

In the present study, agro-food waste derived rice straw (RS) was valorized into cellulose microfibers (CMFs) using a green process of combined ultrasound and heating treatments were thereafter used to improve physical properties thermoplastic starch films (TPS). Mechanical defibrillation fibers gave rise CMFs with cumulative frequencies length diameters below 200 5–15 µm, respectively. The resultant successfully incorporated at, 1, 3, 5 wt% TPS by melt mixing also subjected dry (DH) modification yield modified (TPSDH). materials finally shaped thermo-compression characterized. It observed that both DH fiber incorporation at 3 loadings interfered gelatinization, leading non-gelatinized granules in biopolymer matrix. Finally, all composite showed low changes terms optical equilibrium moisture, being soluble than TPSDH films.
